Another Bank Holiday behind us – hope you enjoyed the break.
A good time to take stock of a few of the things the Labour Council has been doing to help Leeds’ citizens get the most out of their leisure time – including plans to bring world-class events here to Leeds North West.

The Council has a great track record in attracting such events to the city.

In 2015-16 there’s been something for everyone – from the British Art Show 8, the largest touring art exhibition in the UK here in Leeds, October to January to the 7,000 people who took part in June’s Sky Ride.

And there have been great moments – like Leeds being one of the ten host cities for the Rugby World Cup 2015 .

The good news is – there’s more to come, including here in Leeds NW.

Details have been announced for the 2016 Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon – when the world’s finest athletes and 5000 amateurs will take to the streets of Leeds on 12 June. http://www.triradar.com/news/route-details-for-columbia-threadneedle-world-triathlon-leeds-released/ The cycle route will be coming right through the centre of Headingley.

Leeds NW will feature too in this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. The Council have been key supporters of the successful inaugural Tour de Yorkshire – and only this last week plans for 2016 have been announced, with the women’s race starting here in Otley..

The Labour Council have been thinking big, and thinking forward.
-launching the Magical Leeds campaign as part of a three year strategy to raise the profile of the city, increase visitor numbers and encourage overnight stays during the festive period. http://www.visitleeds.co.uk/things-to-do/magical-leeds-2015.aspx#
-bringing together a team to lead the city’s bid to be European Capital of Culture 2023.

All this is good for the city’s economy, and good for its citizens. Thinking big doesn’t mean excluding the people of Leeds:
– the Triathlon, for example, will be preceded by a range of activities taking place in Roundhay Park on Saturday 11 June, offering families and people of all ages a sample of triathlon before the main event.

There are elections in Leeds on May 5
Make sure you use your vote for Labour – we promise to continue the good work,
