The Chair of Leeds NW Labour party, Alex Sobel, is representing Leeds this weekend at the Paris Climate Change Summit for Local leaders. http://www.uclg.org/en/media/events/climate-summit-local-leaders
‘The Climate Summit for Local Leaders is being held in the framework of the 21st United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP21), which is being celebrated in Paris from 30 November to 11 December 2015. COP21 aims to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate change, with the goal of keeping global warming below 2°C. The conference is expected to attract close to 50,000 participants including 25,000 official delegates representing national and subnational governments, intergovernmental organizations, UN agencies, NGOs and civil society.’
Alex was carrying the ForYorkshire board today – http://fortheloveofyorkshire.org/about-us/
As well as being our Chair, Alex is, of course, a Leeds City Councillor – and the Council lead on Climate Change. It’s a brief he cares passionately about.
As he said before he went
‘It’s forecast that cities will produce 80% of all emissions. So it’s crucial that international leaders can hear our voices, and what understand what we need as cities in order to reduce our emissions and mitigate catastrophic climate change.’
