Neil, Janette and Jonathan – Headingley’s Labour Councillors – are anxious to alert you to a new planning proposal – with implications for the Headingley Conservation area – and also for precious green space.
A planning application has been received concerning Ford House in Headingley – that’s the old Rose Court School on Buckingham Road.
The application seeks to demolish the existing school extension and outbuilding and to vacate the original school building, Ford House – which is a listed building. The application then seeks Outline Planning Permission for a new school with a new means of access on the site known as Ford House Gardens.
The site is within the Headingley Conservation Area. The original school building, Ford House is Grade 2 listed.
The proposal raises some initial worries.
There are real concerns about the effects on the existing mature trees around the perimeter of Ford House Garden.
It’s also a matter of special concern that the new building would be sited on land designated as N6 Protected Playing Pitches. Building on the existing playing field would remove a valuable open space which contributes to the local character and distinctiveness of the area. This could harm the character and appearance of this part of the conservation area. The new school building could also therefore adversely affect the setting of the listed building, Ford House.
There have been no prior public consultation or pre-application discussions.
Neil, Janette and Jonathan want to make sure local residents have their say. They’ve written to all those in the immediately affected area.
The Planning Application number is 14/04470/OT – Outline application for means of access and new school at Rose Court Nursery and Pre Prep School, Buckingham Road, Headingley, LS6 1BP.
